I have seen SS
Johnny and the Jukes many times over the past 25 years. One of
my favorite memories is the following. Living in upstate NY, we
have a club here called McGeary's that used to host national
recording acts whenever possible. A few years back, SSJ was
playing. Some of my girlfriends and I went to see them as we had
always been supporters of the Jersey music sound and especially
SS Johnny and the band. Well, after several cocktails and seeing
a terrific show, we were hanging out inside the club at the bar.
I went to the back of the bar to go to the ladies room and found
Johnny hanging there chatting with my friend, Jimmy who was the
bartender. Southside looked at me as I waited patiently to chat
with him and I began to tell him how much I enjoyed the show and
how great I thought they sounded. Without a thought, I grabbed
him by the hand and said, "you have to come meet my friends,
they won't believe it, please come to the bar with me and have a
drink." Although, I am sure he had no desire to do so, for some
reason that night, he humored me and took the time to talk with
us for a while. I bought him a drink and he graciously gave us
autographs, one on my friend Laurie's jean jacket and others on
paper. However, we told him his handwriting was illegible and
demanded he sign it again. He said we were all pains in the
asses, laughed and told us to go home...to which we retorted, "I
Don't Wanna Go Home!" He laughed and had another drink with us.
