Fan of the Month:
John Yorke
I've been a fan
of the band since 1978 when I first read a review of them in
Rolling Stone and the music was described as "horn-driven rhythm
and blues." I decided I had to hear them and went out the next
day and bought "I Don't Want To Go Home" on vinyl. It knocked me
out and I went right out after that and bought "This Time It's
For Real." Over the next few years, I bought several more
albums, all on vinyl, and I still listen to them. I turned a lot
of my friends onto the music too and they, like me, are still
fans.
In the mid 80s, my wife and I had the pleasure of seeing the
band live at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. A great venue
and a fabulous show. I knew then why they are called the best
party band in the world. A couple of years ago I bought a couple
of greatest hits albums on CD, and recently ripped them into my
computer. I then filled in the blanks from my vinyl collection,
recording to cassette then into my computer, downloaded the song
from the new album you offer on the website. I now have over 60
Southside songs on my computer I can listen to while I surf.
This will have to keep me going because I'm now in a wheelchair
due to severe MS and couldn't possibly do the concert thing even
if the band sometime did come to Halifax. Being chosen fan of
the month would really be a thrill for me.
