February 2006 Fan of the Month: Kevin
McKenna
I would like to
nominate Kevin McKenna for the fan of the month. Kevin, who is
recognizable to the band, has followed the Jukes faithfully
since the beginning. (I can't even begin to fathom the number of
shows he has seen.) He is a passionate rock 'n roll fan who
still believes that the definition of a real concert is
Southside Johnny at The Stone Pony. For Christmas this year, he
gave me a collection of the Juke's CDs in order to prepare for
the New Years Eve concert. At the beginning of the show, he gave
me "The Test" - reminiscent of the test from the movie "Diner."
I had to recall so many songs for the concert or the romance was
off...and he was serious. (I passed, with honors.) Once the
music began, he had sang every word and his 6'4" frame ignited
with a passionate rhythm that only the Jukes can ignite. Not
only are the Jukes his favorite band, but they are the musical
score for his life. He measures time according to albums and
favorite tunes. Perhaps the most important reason I would like
to nominate Kevin is because he is a humble man who rarely sets
foot in the spotlight. He is the tall guy in the back at almost
every show who is smiling, and singing, and dancing, and having
the best time of all.
