March 2006 Fan of the Month: Peaches
Congratulations
to Peaches!
I had the rare
privilege, partly due to the fact that I lived in New York City,
of witnessing the performances of, among others: Janis Joplin,
Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and The Doors, The Rolling Stones,
The Who, Cream, Blind Faith, Jefferson Airplane, Ten Years
After, Led Zeppelin, The Jeff Beck Group, Crosby, Stills Nash &
Young, Bob Dylan, The Band, Tina Turner and two of the Beatles.
I really thought that all of the important music had already
been made. What else could compare or come close to all that?
Then one day, I turned on the FM station (WNEW) and I couldn't
believe what I heard at all....that voice, unlike any other I'd
ever heard....more mature, deep, dark and soulful. I was
mesmerized the first time I heard "I Don't Want to Go Home." I
still am.
Since that day in 1976, I've had the pleasure of the witnessing
of South and all manner of Jukes, in all four seasons, under the
stars, in seedy bars, in front of a church, on a rocky boat, and
some of the most fabulous & famous venues in New York City: in
Central Park, at The Savoy, The Palladium, The Ritz...and in the
Great State of New Jersey at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, the
Garden State Arts Center and The Stone Pony.
With the help of friends and family, we put the Jukes people in
touch with our people and as a result, in October of 2003, the
band played at the College of Staten Island! It was quite a
thrill for us!
I've also had the great pleasure of meeting members of the band,
(including the lead singer, who seems to think I have a funny
name....until I remind him that his name is, well, "Southside").
They have all always been so warm and gracious....as are the fab
fans. (Special thanks to Rose, Maryanne and Chek for 'outing'
me!) Linda T., and Michelle 'Paparazzi' Paponetti are the best!
I'm still a strong follower of The Stones, Bruce, Mark Knopfler,
and U2....but on any given night .....where the Jukes are is
where I wanna be!
