July 2010 Fan of the Month: Bernd Herrmann

I thought this could may be a nice story. I have seen Southside Johnny at the B.B. Kings in New York City on 5th of June last Saturday and met Johnny even after the show.

I am a real fan since decades and really hoping that he maybe will come to visit for more than one show maybe this year. Actually in my small hometown there are a lot of Southside fans since we all experienced a nice place during our youth where a lot of that great music was playing..

But what happened? I'm from South Germany and was on holiday in New York for the first time. I've ordered a ticket for the show already when I was still in Germany. I just arrived that Saturday in New York and wanted to explore the city and pick up my will call ticket at B.B. Kings for the show later on. Now I've put on my Southside Johnny T-shirt already that I have got since the European 2009 tour where I've seen him in Melle, Germany. As soon as I left the hotel where I've stayed in and stepped onto the street I heard a female voice saying "nice shirt", 5 seconds after another voice saying "nice shirt" . I felt very pleased and turned around thinking that I met other Southside fans and showing my upright thumb.

After walking for a couple of seconds I realized that that was Johnny himself together with a lady. Of course it was too late to get a hold of him in the crowd anymore. I've could have beaten myself..

Actually I was at the show to see the presentation of the new record "Pills and ammo". Funny enough I met the lady from Belgium that was with Southside that day and she remembered me from the "nice shirt"-incident hours before. We had a nice talk and she promised to try to arrange a meet and greet after the show. So finally this all happened and I was so happy that I could've seen him afterwards. He's a real funny character. His first words when I've met him were "what happened today earlier? I was so nice to you and you've just walked away."

I've also made some compliments that his music provided some really pleasurable moments in my life replying him "the beer helped a lot"..

Great experience it was that I won't ever forget..
