Looking forward to the Rams Head and Birchmere shows this weekend. If you're coming to the NYE show, please consider bringing a food bank donation. Here's the info from the Jukes' Facebook page:

"As part of the wide response to Hurricane Sandy, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes are teaming up with Move For Hunger to help replenish their shelves of food and supplies. The Jukes are urging all fans attending the December 22nd Allentown, PA show and our New Year's Eve show in Red Bank, NJ to bring a donation of canned/nonperishable foods to the shows. Move For Hunger will be on site to accept your donations of food and/or money."

The organization is http://www.moveforhunger.org

Happy holidays to all! May the world become a bit more peaceful in the New Year.

I'm trying to put together a list of Southside Christmas songs. Here is what I have that have been officially released:
- Christmas is for Everyone (From More Ruff Stuff and Jukebox) - Should be a holiday classic - what a beautiful song!
- Please Come Home for Christmas (From Home Alone Soundtrack)
- Stagger Lee (Christmas Version) (From Live at the Paradise)
- Santa Claus is Back (From Live at the Paradise)
- Merry Christmas Baby (From Live at the Paradise)
Am I missing any?

I also have some "unofficial" releases:
- Merry Christmas Baby from Vin Scelsa's 1991 Hungerthon show with Little Steven
- I also have six tracks from Vin Scelsa's show in 1992:
Let's Go Out and Have a Ball & The Christmas Jig - (with Larry Kirwin and Chirs Byrne of Black 47)
- O Holy Night, Adeste Fidelis, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Do You Hear What I Hear (All done with the The Caroling Carolers - the Roches with some guests - and Larry Kirwin)

What else do people have in their collections?

Happy Holidays to one and all.

For many years, I use to call Pete Croken up on Christmas Eve and wish him
a Merry Christmas.

We lost touch over the years, so if anyone has his number
give him a call and tell him I said Merry Christmas....

and to all a good night.... 8-)

Well, I don't know how official a tour it was, but that's the shirt they were selling. The first one was at a bar down the street from Fort Dix. They played the Bound Brook Theater on that tour, too. I'm sure we went up to Boston at one point, and there was probably a Cleveland show that we almost went to, but I don't remember for sure.

Linda T, do you remember anything?

Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal has an interesting article about the shortened life expectancy of rock stars. However, it seems being part of a band helps offset the trend. So SSJ has a reason to be thankful to the 100+ Jukes he has tortured over the years.

Gary, I think it was 1990 when I saw JBJ with the Jukes. And Little Steven, and another entire band came onstage with them towards the end of the show. I'm sure I knew at the time who they were, but I forgot.
Was anybody else at the Garden State Arts Center in August 1990?

I would definitely say that Max counts, given his full album presence on Hearts of Stone and also Better Days (and I also saw him sit in for a few songs at the old Capitol Theatre in Passaic) - and of course Miami Steve. Garry I'm not as sure - he does play bass on Better Days, so maybe that counts. Here's a link to the video of Bruce and Bon Jovi singing "Who Says You Can't Go Home" - look for Bruce's handshake with Bobby at 1:15. http://www.fuse.tv/videos/2012/12/12121 ... erformance

I'm pretty sure that Jon Bon Jovi toured with the Jukes in the summer of 1990. It was a short tour of just a few weeks and it was a crazy time for Jukes fans once word got out that he was in the band. I remember seeing shows at Westbury Music Fair, the Fast Lane, the Chance but I'm sure there had to be a few more.

Gary, I think you're right -- 89 was the Slow Dance tour (I'm pretty sure) and I was doing other stuff in the summers of '91 and '92.

Thanks!

And former Jukes Little Steven, Soozie Tyrell, Barry Danielian and Patti Scialfa, too!

And Jon Bon Jovi, too, if you count the summer he played with the Jukes. So we're up to 7.

Great to see some former (and maybe future) Jukes on the 12-12-12 beneift concert. The Kingfish, Ed Manion, was there on sax with Bruce - and Bobby Bandiera was there on stage left with Bon Jovi. When Bruce came out to sing with Bon Jovi, he and Bobby shook hands, so Bobby got some good TV time.

This is a bunch of days late and some dollars short but I need to post an appreciation of the boys in the band and their show@BB's on 12/1. After more shows attended since 1978 than I care to or can remember... ...I need to state that they were on fire, again.

So I walked in with a couple of wishes: Vary the setlist a bit (Loving Cup, thank you Jeff! Just A Dream, Save Me, Angel Eyes, Breakdown>The Fever, Got to Be a Better Way Home). Check. Play Better Days (I'm the one who yelled out for it and thank you, Jeff, for taking the bull by the horns and passing along the suggestion to Uncle Johnny... 8-) ...and what a great and impassioned version it was considering Sandy and its aftermath). Check. Do some "best of" versions of some songs (Passion Street, Walk Away Renee with a massive assist from John Isley on sax, he's really coming into his own as a Juke!). Check.

All these decades elapsed and SSJ still has the fire burning deep within him to come out and to continue to play groundbreaking shows like this one. A young lady turned around to me 'bout mid-way and commented as to how much fun I was having and I responded "how can you not have fun at a Jukes show?" Her smile was all the response I needed to see... :D !

Thank you again to SS and the almighty Jukes for another great night in the heart of NYC. And the same thanks to us fans that make it possible for them to come in and show us for a couple of hours how it should be done. :) And a special shout-out to Joe Prinzo and Pete Fox for everything that they do to make a SSJ & the Jukes show to happen as smoothly as possible. And for being the nice people that they are... ;)

"What a beautiful buzz, what a beautiful buzz!" Lyrics from Loving Cup. As sung by Jeff Kazee.

May you all have a great and safe rest of the year and look forward to sharing the floor space again in 2013!

Peace,
Alex from Astoria/Sunnyside.

I"m with you Snafu. This site makes me seasick, and I still can't find the QOW. It took a while, but I finally found the Jive. Happy Belated Birthday, Johnny. :D
I am happy to say that I messed up my calendar for December. But it is fixed now and I am off on the 22nd. Now I have to work on Christmas, but at least I got tickets for Bethlehem. Not quite so happy that they are at three different tables, but at least they are all on the same side of the stage. See ya'll there.

Methinks the "new" website is too clever by half, with all the sideways and upsy-downsy scrolling, after a few sips of grog you could get a little seasick (not from the grog but from the stale ice [hats off to Mr. WC Fields}) - anyways the Jive is in a horizontally scrolling "News" box. And, more importantly, IS it grog time yet?

That bread was fresh, of course, not as fresh as some of the fans in the front row (whom shall remain nameless...). Really it was...all nutty and spicy...don't ask why but somehow I was reminded of the Lead Singer...and pricey I might add, but I really can't add so who knows.... In any event, it is probably best to bake it really well...then deep fry it just in case...and, whatever you do...don't feed it to the birds, please....

There is a new jive from the birthday boy. Re the fuse in his birthday package, we know the lead singer is no handyman. The fuse was attached as decoration to a crank powered flashlight and cell phone charger, which really would be handy when your lights go out, unlike....

The show at BB King's was fab!!

How great to hear a surprise version of Breakdown!

There was an early celebration of Uncle Southside's 64th Birthday to which the front row gave the musical answer: Yes!

Yes.... to each and every question that Sir Paul poses in his song.
Will you still need me?
Will you still feed me?
Will you still be sending me a Valentine, Birthday Greeting…and, yes a bottle of wine.

One of the reasons for our answer is: That Voice … it soothes, stimulates commiserates, educates and just all around sets things right.

LeRoy's Basement Vol. I Sounds very interesting, indeed.
Just saw Uncle Southside's Jive on the eve of the hurricane. I can only imagine that someone gave him a "unique" Rosetta Stone gift set. Perhaps he will give us an translation this evening at BB King's?

See you real soon.......

Hi Pappy,

I know they like early starts at BB Kings, because there's always another show afterwards. I'd go with 8 PM.
