Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes

Postby Peanuts » June 7th, 2020, 6:28 pm

Due to a couple reasons, I have been off the internet for about 2-3 months.

I'm ok & in good enough shape

As for Hood, my cell phone it up with texts the day after he passed.
May God go with him & all who loved him.

I feel like there is a hole in my heart

Hood - Note from Kevin Buell to Southside Johnny

Postby Administrator » April 23rd, 2020, 8:18 am

Hey Johnny,

I heard the news about Hood today. I'm sure I have told you in the past how much you and your band and your music have meant to me in the past and continue to today. My days working with you were some of the best days of my life and extremely influential in my life in general. Hood was a part of that as well. I was just reminiscing about the first tour I did with you, my first time on a tour bus. I was fucking green man. Imagine the first guy the new guy meets the first time he steps foot on his first tour bus is Andrew Hood. God bless him. He was probably only 5 or 6 years older than me but he seemed like much more. He showed me the ropes as twisted as they may have been. He made things comfortable for me. I didn't see him much lately except for your gigs but each time I saw him it seemed like I saw him the day before. He loved you Johnny. His loyalty and dedication to you and the Jukes over decades has been something I have really admired, something I will never forget and an example I can give credit to for the good in my life.

Hope you are well Johnny. I eagerly anticipate the day we can finally get out to the dinner I have been promising.
Til then...stay safe and God bless!
Best always,
Kb

The Queen has her Christmas message, but we know New Years belongs to Southside! This just in from our fearless leader:

I just want to take this New Year’s Day to thank all of the Jukes fans for the great support over 2019. I want to especially thank the front row for all the wackiness and gifts, including the Jukesopoly game that was just the best. Phyllis and all of you did an amazing job on that. I also want to thank those folks who traveled far and wide to see us. It is much appreciated.
2020 looks to be a tumultuous year. I don’t air my political views that much, but to all the U. S. Jukians, please get out and vote. It’s both your right and your duty.
Here’s to a fantastico new year for all!

A wee question for all the UK members? I think that in the early 80s the Old Grey Whistle Test visited Asbury Park with Mark Ellen or David Hepworth interviewing the South. I can also remember them showing a clip of the Jukes performing Walk Away Renee. I have searched high and low for this interview, with no success! I am actually beginning to think that it's my memory playing tricks on me?
Anybody got any info on this?
Thanks in advance.

Speaking of Johnny and sporting moments, the Jukes played at a blues festival in downtown Toronto the same night as game 6 of the 93 world series. I was working for a TV station then and had a media pass for the game, caught the Jukes first set, Johnny said the Jays fans would be bummed out because the Phillies were going to win. Got down to the ball park by the 3rd inning and watched Joe Carter hit his famous game winning home run in the 9th. Quite a night!!

Carter is one of only two players to end a World Series with a home run, the other being Bill Mazeroski.I have not seen Mazeroski but Carter. He is a great Base Ball player probably the best of his time.

Where can I get the Detour Ahead album on CD? Didn't have copies on the tour and the Amazon & eBay just have vinyl listed.....

Does anyone know the name of the keyboard player who substituted for Jeff Kazee at the August 7 Asbury Park Convention Hall gig?

Thanks!

John - deeply honored one of the world's greatest talents and his band are playing California in the near future. Extremely miffed that all 4 dates are in the wasteland of Southern California. :!:

Looking forward to the September 12 concert at the Rose in Pasadena. It will be great to have Southside and the Band here in LA.

Who else will be at this show?
