A wee question for all the UK members? I think that in the early 80s the Old Grey Whistle Test visited Asbury Park with Mark Ellen or David Hepworth interviewing the South. I can also remember them showing a clip of the Jukes performing Walk Away Renee. I have searched high and low for this interview, with no success! I am actually beginning to think that it's my memory playing tricks on me?
Anybody got any info on this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Veggivet,

Hood had some health problems, and the important thing is that he is now on the mend.

Thanks,

Glad to hear Hood is doing better, but what happened to him? Thx.

Speaking of Johnny and sporting moments, the Jukes played at a blues festival in downtown Toronto the same night as game 6 of the 93 world series. I was working for a TV station then and had a media pass for the game, caught the Jukes first set, Johnny said the Jays fans would be bummed out because the Phillies were going to win. Got down to the ball park by the 3rd inning and watched Joe Carter hit his famous game winning home run in the 9th. Quite a night!!

Carter is one of only two players to end a World Series with a home run, the other being Bill Mazeroski.I have not seen Mazeroski but Carter. He is a great Base Ball player probably the best of his time.

John - deeply honored one of the world's greatest talents and his band are playing California in the near future. Extremely miffed that all 4 dates are in the wasteland of Southern California. :!:

Southside and the Jukes will perform at South Park Ampitheater, just south of Pittsburgh, on Friday, July 26, 2019. Free show, funded by Allegheny County.

If you see this, John, this might be a good opportunity to play Living In The Real World, which has been hanging since that Holiday House show in Monroeville 30 years ago. Probably been a while for the band on that one, so I’ll play guitar or bass guitar if it would help. Let me know if you want to change the key.

It appears on the Into The Harbour Album tracklist as You're My Girl (I Don't Want To Discuss It) sorry I didn’t type the whole title

"You're My Girl" was in reality "I Don't Wanna Discuss It" … a Little Richard cover.

I was at the Derry NH show last night. Wow! Tupelo Music Hall is a little bit of a "different" venue than where I am used to seeing the band, one of those places with tables and no dance floor, so that can make it a different experience (no knot of people down front swaying to the tunes...) Funny, but the guy seated next to me commented that the place "still had that new-car smell" to it, but I know that Tupelo has been open for many years. His comment took me back 30 years though, to a show the band did at the old Chateau de Ville in Framingham MA; as that night the venue was a converted function room (mirrors on the walls, chandeliers), Southside commented that "wow, they usually don't let us play rooms like this, they say we stink up da joint!"

I didn't do a playlist, I was just there to enjoy some great tunes from an old friend. I didn't record any video of the show on my cellphone either, preferring to just let my heart be bathed in the music.... Lots of solos from the horns last night (Southside commented at one point that he was "overworking the horns tonight"), but they sounded so damn good, the audience was greatly appreciative.

What always amazes me is when the band is almost playing two songs at the same time. Last night it was "Fever" with Tom Petty's "Breakdown". The jumps between the two was seamless (as always), and like a kid watching a magician, I am always left with the comment "How do they DO that?"

Then of course, there are the goofy clips. At one point, the band went into a little "Riders on the Storm", and then did the first verse of Karen Carpenter's "Superstar" ("Long ago, and oh so far away, I fell in love with you...")... I mean, really? What other bands can pull THAT off?

I heard "Gin Soaked Boy", "Shake em Down", "Workin Too Hard" live last night, got to do some singalong on "Walk Away Renee" and "Talk to Me", and totally enjoyed the raucous version of "Havin a Party" they did in the encore.

And I don't know how he does it, but this guy still puts on the same great show as always. 2 hours of music last night, and the same high energy antics on stage that was in shows from 30 years ago (like at the old Uncle Sam's on Nantasket Beach... how many of these old venues are gone, and yet the Southside Fountain of Youth still goes on? There might be a Dorian Gray type of thing going on here, Southside is taking all the mojo from these great halls and keeping it alive...) Inspirational; here I am feeling like I might be losing a little on my own fastball, and then see Southside still doing it just the same as he always has.... shoot, if he is not going to grow old, least I can do is to attempt to do the same.

Thanks guys for another GREAT show.

I am thinking ... thinking (that happens sometimes...) that 2019 could be the year that THE JUKES return to Northern California for at least ONE show ....

OK, back to thinking .... thinking
